We had a blast in our Reading class in November. The students finished reading Number the Stars by
Lois Lowry. We wrote the author, and she emailed us back. How cool is that! Students
really enjoyed the book , and some students are so interested in the Holocaust that they are reading any book I have dealing
with that time period. For the rest of the quarter we will be working on reading comprehension skills and
reading short stories from our reading book.
In Math, 5th
grade students are using protractors to measure angles, and soon 6th grade will learn to find a percent of a number.
Students are also using their fraction and measuring skills to put together gift baskets for the December PTL auction.
Our class just wrapped up a chapter on force and motion in Science. Next, students
will tackle Chapter 16 dealing
with energy and light.
Students are excited about our new
chapter in Social Studies. We are now studying the ancient Arab world and current situations in the Middle East.
If any congregation members have any experience in this area of the world, we would love to have you as a speaker.
In Computers students are learning the application of Microsoft Excel and its
many uses. Students started out with data entry and organization. Now we are working with graphing data
using charts within Excel. Students will love this project because M&Ms are involved. Mmm!
Thanks to all volunteers who have helped us with our auction projects. We couldn’t do it without
you.
