Happy Advent season and Merry Christmas!
December – the time of year we think
of Advent and Christmas! It can be a very hectic time of the year or a peaceful time for us as Christians.
Hectic in the sense of children’s activities, shopping, family and friends gathering, preparing of food, and
the list can go on. And then peaceful in the sense that we celebrate the Prince of Peace coming to earth
from His heavenly home -the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. The Peace that came from above in
the form of a small baby in Bethlehem to live on this earth for 33 years, suffer, die and then rise three days later for you
and me! That peace that passes all human understanding! Yes, when this time of the year
can get out of control, find that amount of time to enjoy Peace and quiet. Reread that wonderful story
in Luke 2 and see if that gives you hope and peace to get through the hectic times, but also the joy to share the love of
Christ with everyone around you.
YPS – Young People Society –
The high school
youth enjoyed a great progressive supper on November 20th. Thank you to the families that opened
up their homes for us and fed us! We look forward to be busy this month. We plan on
setting up the live nativity stable on Saturday, December 10 at 9AM. We hope many youth members are present
and if some parents would like to help that would be great too! Then on Wednesday, December 7 starting
at 6:15 the YPS will be serving our annual mini-wurstmarkt advent meal. So before you attend our 2nd
Advent worship service at 7:30, come over to the activity center for a bite to eat! The YPS plans to get
together to do some Christmas caroling and a party. All this will start at 4:30.
On
December 14, our YPS will present a live nativity for everyone to enjoy before and after our Christmas Choir concert.
All good things must come to end, so on Saturday, December 17, the stable for the live nativity needs to come down.
The YPS and anyone who would like to help disassemble starting at 9AM.
Sunday school – We will have Sunday school classes on Christmas Day, December 25 and New Year’s Day, January 1.
So please bring your children to Sunday school on these days and stay for adult Bible class in the church.
VBS, Vacation Bible School- It is December, so this is the month we start to plan for VBS in the summer!
Anyone wanting to be on the VBS committee be looking in the bulletin for when we will get together. The
theme for VBS next year will be Amazing Desert Journey – Where Jesus Leads Us Home.
School - I hope everyone will join the children in celebrating the joyous news of
our Savior’s birth on Christmas Eve at 7:30. What a great time for us to join together in hearing
the children share the message through words, actions, and songs. This year’s service is titled God’s
Love at Christmas.
We
had a good turnout for our first Kindergarten forum on November 20th. There was some great discussion
by those present. Thank you for coming and sharing. Our next Kindergarten forum will
be January 8 at 6PM. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments before then, please contact me
or Randy Bowman. One of our main goals is to make sure as much information is available to the congregation
so a prayerful decision can be made whether to have a Kindergarten here at Trinity.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as I can at the dinner/auction on December 3. It should
be a great time for fellowship, food, and fundraising for the children of our school.
Last Friday of the Month- On the last Friday of each month, we invite congregational members and parents to
come in and see the school in action. You are welcome to sign in at the office and then pop into the
classrooms anytime between 8:30 and 11:30. I hope to see you here!
A couple of dates to keep in mind for the month of December: December
16 we will dismiss at 2PM so the teacher’s can have our monthly in-service from 2:15-4:15.
December
22-January 2 there will be no school for Christmas break.
My
door is open if you have any suggestions for our school, YPS group, or Sunday school. Please feel free
to give me a call or stop by my office and talk. Thank you for your continued support of all our ministry
programs at Trinity Lutheran Church and School!
On behalf the school staff,
I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas with the blessings of a New Year!
God’s Blessings!
